Is Your BT Smart Hub Flashing Purple? Easy & Quick Solutions

Is Your BT Smart Hub Flashing Purple? Easy & Quick Solutions

Is your BT Smart Hub flashing purple? Are you unable to connect to the internet?

Luckily, fixing the problem is not too difficult. This guide will show you how.

Find Out If Your BT Broadband Is Activated

If you’ve recently moved homes or have installed a new BT connection, then it’s likely that your account hasn’t been activated yet.

Activation of new connections can take up to 24 hours from the point of installation.

Until your account gets active, your BT Smart Hub will flash purple.

There isn’t much you can do in this scenario except wait for the account activation to take effect or pursue the same with the BT customer care team.

If your connection isn’t new, then you can take steps to remedy the problem.

Check The BT Broadband Service Status

The first thing you should do is check if the service from the company is stable.

BT has a service status page where you can go to check whether the service is active in your area.

All you need to do is visit the page and enter your landline number into the provided field.

If the service is down from the company’s end, you can contact their customer care team and wait for them to fix the problem.

Remove And Reattach Broadband Cable

In most cases, the reason for the blinking purple light is a poor broadband cable connection. This is easy to fix.

  • Remove the broadband cable (black wire with grey ends) from the BT Smart Hub.
  • Wait for five seconds and reattach the broadband cable to all the sockets and ports.
  • You should be able to hear a click as you reconnect the cable. If you don’t hear the click, the cable wasn’t plugged in properly.
  • You can also try gently pulling it out of the Hub. If it is plugged in properly, it won’t come out.

Verify Microfilter Connections

If you want to use a phone along with broadband, the Microfilter is used with the BT Smart Hub.

Microfilter connections can also affect the stability of your internet and can cause a flashing purple light.

Fixing it is fairly simple, though.

  • Remove all the cables from the Microfilter.
  • Disconnect the Microfilter cable from the socket.
  • Reconnect all the cables after waiting for five minutes.

Reboot The BT Smart Hub

After you’ve checked all the cables, it’s also a good idea to reboot your BT Smart Hub.

This will help reinitiate the software in the router and ensure a stable connection.

Rebooting the BT Smart Hub is simple.

  • Turn your BT Smart Hub off and remove the power cable from the power outlet.
  • Wait for 60 seconds before plugging the power cable back in.
  • Switch the router on and wait for the lights to stabilize.

Summary

Instead of your BT Smart Hub flashing purple, you may see it as a flashing pink light.

However, the two colors are so close on the light spectrum that it is very easy to mistake them for each other. So, even if you think you see a blinking pink instead of purple, the solutions provided above will remain the same.
