iPhone Can’t Find Chromecast? Here’s The Fix

Have you installed the Google Home app on your iPhone, but it can’t find the Chromecast device connected to your TV?

In this article, we’ll discuss why your phone cannot find the casting device and what you can do to fix this issue to cast your favorite videos and movies on a bigger display successfully.

Why can’t my iPhone see my Chromecast?

  • You have not set up Chromecast with your iPhone correctly.
  • Chromecast is bugging and needs a restart.
  • You have failed to connect your iPhone and Chromecast to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Your internet service is experiencing slow speed, or the Wi-Fi signals are very poor.
  • Chromecast is outdated, or its firmware is corrupt.
  • Chromecast is faulty.

How do I make Chromecast discoverable on my iPhone?

To let your iPhone find your Chromecast and make it discoverable, here are some tried and tested ways that have helped many users overcome this issue.

Setup Chromecast Correctly

Your iPhone may not be able to find your Chromecast device if you have not set up both devices correctly. To do this:

  • Install “Google Home” on your iPhone.
  • Plug in the Chromecast device in your TV’s HDMI port and turn it on.
  • Tap “Bluetooth” on your iPhone and make sure it is turned on.
  • Now open iPhone “Settings.”
  • Tap “Privacy.”
  • Tap “Local Network.”
  • Turn on “Google Home.”
  • Go back to “Settings” and close the app.
  • Open “Google Home” app.
  • Tap “Devices.”
  • Tap “Add.”
  • Select “Google Nest or partner device.”
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the device to the Wi-Fi network and complete other checks.

Next, try to cast content from your iPhone to the TV and see if this fixes your issue!

Restart Chromecast

If the problem persists, reboot your Chromecast this way:

  • Launch the “Google Home” app installed on your iPhone.
  • Tap & hold your Chromecast device’s title.
  • Tap “Settings” (Top-right corner).
  • Select “More Settings.”
  • Tap “Reboot.”

TIP: You can also restart your Chromecast device by unplugging it from the HDMI port of your TV for one minute and plugging it back afterward.

The outdated Chromecast version is another primary reason for your iPhone failing to find it. Restarting also prompts the streaming device to check for updates and install them.

Verify iPhone and Chromecast are Connected to the Same Wi-Fi Connection

Your iPhone can only find Chromecast if both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. To verify this:

  • Launch the “Google Home” app installed on your iPhone.
  • Tap & hold your Chromecast device’s title.
  • Tap “Settings” (Top-right corner).
  • Select “Device Information.”
  • Look for “Wi-Fi.”
  • Make sure that Chromecast is using the same network for connectivity as your iPhone. If not, open your iPhone “Settings,” tap “Wi-Fi,” note down the network name, and change it to the one you are using on your Chromecast device.

Hopefully, your phone can now find the casting device!

Check Internet Connectivity

It is possible that your internet connection is experiencing poor speed or the Wi-Fi signals are not strong enough to reach your iPhone or Chromecast. When this happens, your phone won’t be able to locate the Chromecast device in order to cast content successfully. To fix this:

  • Reboot your router.
  • Try to use your iPhone or TV (running Chromecast) near the router to improve Wi-Fi signals. Alternatively, invest in buying a Wi-Fi extender to attenuate the signals in different rooms of your home that are a bit far from the router.
  • Contact your internet service provider and see if they are experiencing an outage causing this frustration.
  • Use a mobile hotspot for both your iPhone and Chromecast.

Factory Reset Chromecast

You can also try factory resetting your Chromecast device to fix the corrupt files and get it to recognize your iPhone. Since your phone cannot find the device, you can reset it this way:

First, make sure your Chromecast is plugged into the HDMI port of the TV and is powered on.

Next, press & hold down the button located on the side of the Chromecast.

When you do this, the LED will start to flash orange. Keep holding and then immediately release the button as soon as the LED light turns solid while.

Now, your Chromecast will restart, meaning the factory reset process is complete. Finally, set it up again with your iPhone using the above method, potentially resolving your issue.

Use a Third-Party App to Connect iPhone to Chromecast

Sometimes, the problem can be with the “Google Home” app on your iPhone. Luckily, you can fix this glitch by simply using a third-party app for connectivity.

For example, the “Screen Mirroring – Smart View Cast” app is compatible with your iPhone and can let it find your Chromecast device with ease and also optimizes the video quality according to the speed of your internet connection.

Replace Google Chromecast

If you have tried all the above steps and your iPhone still can’t find the Chromecast device, install Google Home on another phone, set it up with the streaming device with the same Wi-Fi network, and try reconnecting. In case this fails as well, there might be something wrong with your Chromecast.

It is best to go to the retailer where you bought it and ask for a replacement device.
