Why is my ITV hub not working on the Firestick?
There are numerous reasons that your ITV hub isn’t working on your Firestick. Although these could be down to ITV themselves, here are some common errors on the Firestick and how to fix them.
ITV keeps freezing
There’s nothing worse than watching a program, and it keeps freezing. It usually happens when you get to the good bits too! A server issue on ITV’s side can cause the error. Alternatively, your app that isn’t up to date.
Unfortunately, you cannot fix a server issue, so it’s worth checking the down detector to see the ITV hub is down. If there doesn’t appear to be any server issues, then skip over this step and head on to updating your app. ITV advises that the app update should automatically happen as long as the TV is connected to the web.
However, if you believe it needs updating, all you need to update the ITV Hub app is to delete the app and then reinstall it again. So it will install the latest version. That way, you know if it is running the correct version.
Error message
Sometimes ITV puts out an error message even on a program you’ve previously been watching. This error occurs frequently, and although ITV has provided a reason for this. They advise you to close your app down and then reopen it again. This usually fixes the error and allows you to watch your favorite programs again.
How do I install ITV onto my Firestick 2023?
Suppose your Firestick doesn’t come with ITV already downloaded. In that case, you can do this via the Amazon website or directly on your Firestick as you need an Amazon account to download apps to the Firestick.
How to download on Amazon
Head to Amazon, sign in and then type in ITV Hub into the search. Next, you need to choose your Firestick on the righthand side, and if you have more than one, there is a dropdown to choose from for you to select the right device. The app should then begin to download directly to your Firestick.

Whilst trying to resolve this issue, the app usually closes itself down. ITV advises on their Twitter page that they are aware of this error and are getting it looked into.
Unplug your Firestick
If you’ve noticed regular freezing on the ITV hub or your Firestick, it is recommended you unplug your Firestick completely, then allow it to restart. If you’re having issues even getting on to the ITV app, it is likely an issue with the Firestick itself. This tends to be fixed by simply rebooting the stick.
ITV hub pairing issues
To connect a device to your Firestick, you need to be on the same internet connection as the Firestick. If you are using your phone, be sure to check if you’re on mobile data or wifi. As if you are on mobile data, you will be unable to find the Firestick wirelessly.
If you’re unsure how to connect your device to the Firestick, here is how to do this with ease:
- To start with, sign in to your ITV account or create an account if you’re new to on-demand service. Doing this over a web browser or a phone is much easier than attempting this via a TV.
- Enter the code shown on your TV into the box on your device, e.g. your phone
- Click continue, and then you should be connected.
Once you’re connected, you can use the TV functions as usual.
How do I fix the ITV hub buffering issue
Ongoing buffering
Buffering is due to a weak wifi connection, as when the internet drops out, the content can no longer be downloaded, making it stop playing once it’s reached where it downloaded to. This is sometimes why you can watch it for a little longer, even when your internet has dropped out.
If you’re far away from your wifi router, this can cause the likelihood of buffering to rise significantly due to the signals needing to travel further. One way around this is buying a wifi booster. Amazon has now created a wifi booster for the Firestick. You are making the connection stronger in the room of the Firestick.
If your home is struggling to get wifi connection at all, please reboot your router. To do this, you need to turn it off at the power, allow 60 seconds and then plug it back in. That allows for a complete restart. It can take 5-10 minutes for your connection to load up properly.
Can you clear your ITV hub cache?
You can clear the cache of the ITV hub on your Firestick by doing the following simple steps:
- Head on to settings on your Firestick
- Then select applications
- Following on from this, choose to manage installed applications, select the ITV hub app.
- Then select clear cache and then clear data.
